About Wet Dog Drones

A one-person operation that punches above its weight.

The Story

Wet Dog Drones started with a $7,000 personal loan and a dream that turned out to be harder than expected. I bought a drone and a GNSS receiver, got my Part 107, and waited for the money to roll in.

Spoiler: It didn't.

The first three years were a grind. Working weekends. Answering emails at 1 AM. Building relationships one project at a time. The "Part 107 = license to print money" narrative sold by drone training courses? That's a lie. The money is out there, but you've got to chase it. You've got to show up. And you've got to be willing to grind.

"I'm not a traditional drone service provider. I'm embedded in your workflow, not an outside vendor. When I use my day job's truck to get to site, I don't charge mileage. That's how this works."

The Philosophy

Construction documentation isn't about pretty pictures. It's about protecting your project from the disputes that always come. Every project over $5M needs baseline documentation before the first shovel hits dirt. When the change orders come — and they will — you need proof of what was actually there.

I've been on both sides of the fence. I understand how construction projects actually work because I'm embedded in them. I know what superintendents need, what VDC teams require, and what holds up in a dispute.

Certifications & Equipment

  • ✓ FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
  • ✓ Class D Airspace Authorization (when required)
  • ✓ RTK/PPK GNSS for survey-grade accuracy
  • ✓ Insurance: Commercial drone liability coverage

Why "Wet Dog Drones"?

Because the dog comes to work with me. Because construction sites are muddy. And because "professional drone services" sounds like everyone else. We're not everyone else.
